Three words

Back. It. Up.

Take it from someone who has gone through two hard drives in as many years (thank you MacBook from hell – with battery temperatures to match – I don’t know why I still love you). Back up your work. E-mail your drafts to your parents. If they’re luddites, send them to someone else who will store them for you. Buy a jump drive and save it there once a day. Whatever.

Just DO IT.

  1. Dear Mom,

Attached is draft 5. No. You can’t read it. Just hang onto it.

    Sincerely,

    Your unpublished (and paranoid) daughter

    • Totally! I sent them an e-mail once a day. I couldn’t bear to lose even one sentence. Eventually I stopped writing little notes though…does that make me awful?
